Charity vets showcased in national TV series

The amazing, lifesaving work of vet charity PDSA is being highlighted in a Merseyside-based TV series, which has started on Channel 4 on Saturdays at 4.30pm.

Cameras spent six months behind the scenes at the charity’s two busy Liverpool hospitals – in Huyton and Kirkdale – to create the fascinating new series, called The People’s Vet.

The 20-part series captures all the drama as PDSA’s heroic vet teams deal with hundreds of cases every single day – ranging from routine check-ups to extraordinary life-and-death emergencies.

Series executive producer Sarah Murch said: “The PDSA has, for one hundred years, treated British pets when their owners can’t afford private vet treatment. We deliberately chose two of their busiest city hospitals to see the day to day realities faced by their veterinary teams, working to treat sick pets and helping their owners. 

“It was very moving to see the importance of pets in the clients’ lives, and their gratitude for the treatment they received”

One of the vets featured in the TV show is Matt Forshaw, senior vet at PDSA’s Huyton hospital. He said: “The series gives us a great opportunity to show the wider world what an important job we do at PDSA. We’re here for people who love their pets but find themselves struggling to meet vet bills.

“It was quite an experience having the cameras on site. Any initial concerns we had were quickly overcome and they only filmed staff and pet owners who were happy with cameras present. Nothing was staged; they just wanted to capture real life.

“Every day at PDSA is different,” added Matt “and you never know what’s coming next through the door. That’s what makes it a fascinating job and I think that will come across in the series”
