Central Group appoint new apprentices

Central Group’s search for new talent has resulted in the appointment of seven new apprentices, all of whom join the Knowsley based engineering business for a four year, multi-skilled apprenticeship scheme.
Over 90 young people aged between 16 – 18, applied for the apprenticeship places and from a shortlist of 45 who met the criteria, seven have been taken on by the family run business, which specialises in rotating machinery and associated control.
Central is committed to investing in young people and have created the hands-on apprenticeship scheme which is being run in conjunction with the Association of Electrical and Mechanical trades (AEMT) in Loughborough.
All seven apprentices will undergo a three month industry familiarisation period involving hands on training in every part of the Central workshop, followed by a longer period in each department alongside periods of training at the Loughborough College.
Shaun Sutton, Director at Co-owner of Central Group, said: “Apprenticeships provide a fantastic opportunity for young people to earn a wage whilst working alongside our experienced and skilled engineers.
“After their four year training programme we hope to be able to provide full time positions in their preferred area of work, but the training they will receive will be of such a standard they will be able to apply for and handle countless different jobs within the sector.
“It is important to invest in our young people, and if we can take advantage of their training here at Central then excellent, but it is just as important that we can help set them up with skills that they may use to apply for and find employment elsewhere.”
Apprentices on the Central Group programme have been employed on a full time basis (40 hours per week) and will be expected to fulfil the role of a tradesperson at the end of their four year programme, qualifying with a Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship.
