Take a step back in time for an afternoon of Kirkby Memories

Take a trip down memory lane and explore Kirkby’s recent past through film and conversation with a nice cuppa in Kirkby Library on Tuesday 25 September from 2pm to 4pm.

Jointly  hosted by Knowsley archive (ARK) and Kirkby Library’s friendly staff, the afternoon will provide a rare opportunity to watch the gritty and controversial documentary, ‘Kirkby: Portrait of a Town’ and the inspiring short film, ‘The Malayan Connection’, a story of two cultures coming together in post-World War II Kirkby and the moving reunion that took place in the town last year.

It will also be a chance to enjoy a nice cuppa and chat with the friendly Kirkby staff about your own memories of the area as you take in the photographs, maps and historic documents on display.

As an added bonus, the Heritage Lottery Fund supported exhibition, ‘This Sporting Life’ will also be open to view, celebrating the first U.K. Special Olympics that were held at Kirkby Sports Centre and Swimming Baths in 1982.

The event is free of charge, but as space is limited, you can avoid disappointment by booking a place in advance. Contact the ARK on 0151 443 4291 or Kirkby Library, The Kirkby Centre, Norwich Way, Kirkby L32 8XY on 0151 443 4289 and join us for an afternoon of reminiscence.
