College launches end of year hair and beauty spectacular

The hair and beauty students from Knowsley Community College put their imagination to the test, as they teamed up with their performing arts department to present their annual end of year show, showcasing the amazing talents of their students.

This year’s show was inspired by the 1920’s era, opened with a dazzling Peaky Blinders themed dance from the college’s performing arts students to mark the start of the show.

This was followed by a fabulous display of work from the creative level 2 barbering and level 2 & 3 hairdressing students, who created a complete 1920’s inspired look on their models, from their hair and makeup to their outfits.

As part of their course, the students were judged on their cuts, overall image, design brief, makeup, health and safety, as well as the journey they had taken to form the finished look.

Competition was tight, seeing three winning creations selected from each course, including Charlie Dylan from level 2 barbering, Karla Pulling from level 2 hairdressing and Hayley Dempsey from level 3 hairdressing.

Rebecca Round, hairdressing tutor, said: “The show was a great success, and the talent on show was outstanding.

“Opportunities like these where departments can take advantage of our internal links are a great way for both sets of students to gain valuable work experience.

“Not only did today contribute to elements of their coursework but is was also the perfect opportunity for them to build their portfolio. Something which they can take with them to future employers”.
