Prescot Cables eased to victory in the Liverpool Senior Cup final versus a Marine side for whom six players had featured in a League Fixture at Altrincham only 24hrs earlier.

Cables started the game on the front foot and enjoyed the majority of possession but neither goalkeeper had been overstretched until Josh Klein-Davies was felled in the area on 34 minutes, Chris Almond sending Martin Fearon the wrong way from the penalty spot to give Cables the lead.

As half time approached appeals for a second penalty where waved away as Lloyd Dean appeared to be caught with a high boot, although Dean himself did double the advantage at the break with a bullet header on the stroke of half time from Jordan Wynne’s in swinging free kick.

Cables survived a penalty appeal themselves early in the second half as Valter Fernandes tangled with a Marine forward before the head of Lloyd Dean further extended the visitors lead, Dean steering the ball home from close range following a corner.

At nil-three Marine began to apply some pressure to the Cables goal with James Murray going particularly close on two occasions and Dean clearing another effort from just short of his own line.

Meanwhile at the other end Wynne had a goal disallowed for offside and brought a good save out of Fearon when in on goal.

The icing on the cake arrived in the 88th minute, a Cables corner was half cleared to Jordan Wynne left side of the penalty area and his clever little ball into the box found Josh Klein-Davies who turned well and drilled home number four to the delight of the large travelling contingent behind the goal at the Rossett Road End who had provided fantastic vocal encouragement from first whistle until last.

The front four of Almond, Dean, Klein-Davies and Cain had proved a real handful for the Mariners defence all evening.

Its now back to back Liverpool Senior Cup titles for Prescot Cables having won it for the first time last season.
