Detectives are continuing to appeal for information following a serious injury shooting in Kirkby yesterday, Sunday 15 July.
At around 2.30pm, a call was received by the ambulance service that a man in his 20s had been brought into hospital with gunshot injuries. His condition is currently described as critical.
Following initial enquiries, the incident is believed to have occurred on Brook Hey Drive and enquiries are continuing this morning in the area, including forensics, house-to-house, CCTV and reassurance by local officers.
Detective Chief Inspector Mark Baker said: "This is an appalling incident which took place in broad daylight, and has left a young man critically injured. To fire any weapon in a residential area during daylight hours is incredibly reckless and will never be tolerated.
“We believe that this was a targeted attack and that there may have been a previous incident around lunchtime at Roughwood shops. If you have any information on this incident or the shooting itself, please come forward.
"I have no doubt that some people in the Northwood and wider Knowsley areas have seen and heard something either yesterday afternoon or since, and they may have small details which they might regard as trivial, or be fearful of coming forward. Let us be the judges of how important the information is, and I can assure you that we will take action.
“Did you see anyone suspicious or any vehicles in the area around 2.30pm? Were you passing or live locally and have dashcam or home CCTV footage, which may be valuable to our enquiries? Please let us know, and we can make your streets safer by removing these people and their weapons.
“We are relentless in our pursuit of those who bring firearms onto the streets and have had significant successes in seizures and sentences in recent weeks and months. But key to this action is information provided by the communities who are affected by serious and organised crime.
